MP dream steps closer

LOCAL businessman Clive Larkman’s dream of becoming a state politician is a step closer to reality, after he was endorsed as the Liberal candidate for Monbulk last week.
Mr Larkman, a former Shire of Yarra Ranges councillor and deputy mayor, said he had been interested in politics since he was a teenager.
Mr Larkman is a volunteer member of many local organisations including the Rotary Club of Chirnside Park, Eastern Regional Library Corporation, and Wandin and Mt Evelyn football clubs.
Through his work on the council, Mr Larkman says he has recognised the urgent need for more investment in smaller communities to maintain and upgrade vital infrastructure, such as roads and bridges.
He said one of the main issues that he would like to improve in the Monbulk electorate was the current state of public transport.
“I will continue to talk to the community and try and help them with their problems and issues,” he said.
The next state election is due to be held late 2006.
