ELIZABETH Johnson Barrera speaks using vivid colours and canvas.
The Olinda artist has 12 works on display at Lady Hawke Café throughout February.
“I like paining and art because I like that it speaks to people’s feelings rather than needing words to describe it,” she said.
Ms Johnson Barrera said the collection was a mixture of oil, pen, ink and pencil pieces covering various subjects.
Living in the hills inspired the numerous landscapes on show.
“It’s a wonderful place to live as an artist,” Ms Johnson Barrera said. “It’s very inspiring nature-wise.”
She doesn’t try to capture the literal landscape, but its essence.
“It’s got a bit of magic to it,” she said.
Others paintings feature a woman, pomegranates, and a bird of paradise.
“It’s a mix of nature and… I’m not sure how to describe it really,” she said.
Lady Hawke Café is located at 1365 Mt Dandenong Tourist Road, Mt Dandenong.
