MONBULK’S top large production nursery has been given another boost to add to its long-list of achievements.
In a surprise move, the Yarra Ranges Council recently recognised Proteaflora for its work in promoting not only the horticulture industry but the shire.
Owner David Matthews was shocked by the accolades at a meeting on 11 May.
The council presented Mr Mathews with a letter under seal congratulating him on his company’s achievements.
Mr Matthews had no idea when he was invited to attend the meeting what was in store.
“It was a complete surprise and out of the blue but it’s nice to be recognised in your own community,” he said.
The framed letter recognised Proteaflora for winning the Nursery and Garden Industry Australia’s top award for Best Large Production Garden in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
This led to the company being the first ever large production nursery to be named in the hall of fame from 2008 to 2010.
The letter also recognised Proteaflora for successfully completing the shire’s sustainable business program in 2008.
