JENNY Reddin’s paintings are deceptive and intriguing – and now they are on display at Burrinja Café Gallery.
Viewers will rarely, if ever, spy brush marks. The works often appear to be sculpted.
Ms Reddin uses a combination of techniques and materials to create the beautiful textures and contrasts which give her works this unique appearance.
She often applies layer upon layer of whisper thick washes of transparent colour to build up the canvas surface.
Gently Does It will be on show at Burrinja from 25 August to 26 September and showcase a group of her recent works.
Many have an abstract landscape feel, but could also suggest partially buried bodies and torsos suspended in space.
“The landscapes are very much about where I live and the drama I see around me,” she said.
“The explosion of the sunrise every morning over the hill, gale force winds ripping 100 year old trees out of the ground, new life in spring.”
“They are also about the sensuousness and flow of the hills and valleys. I have always seen figures in the landscape.”
Ms Reddin and her family survived the Black Saturday Bushfires, also saving their home and Ms Reddin’s studio.
Burrinja visual arts director Tilla Buden said Mr Reddin had reached a new stage of maturity that had enabled her to pull together the exciting group of works.
“She is certainly an artist to keep an eye out for and to collect, and she is presently represented in collections throughout Australia, Asia and the USA,” she said.
Mr Reddin is one of the Yarra Valley Open Studios artists and her work can always be viewed at Reddin Partners, 108/685 Burke Road, Camberwell.
Burrinja Cafe Gallery is located at 351 Glenfern Road, Upwey.
