QUICK action by a motorbike rider in controlling his bike probably saved his life after he was in collision with a truck in Ferntree Gully last week.
The bike rider was travelling west on Burwood Highway on Wednesday, 4 January when he collided with a transport truck performing a U-turn.
Police said that seconds before the crash the motorcyclist had put his bike into a controlled skid and then pushed himself away from his vehicle before they both hit the side of the truck’s trailer.
Emergency service crews then removed the man from beneath the trailer, where he had become trapped.
The man sustained a broken femur and was airlifted to The Alfred hospital but Senior Constable Ken Hawke of Knox police said his injuries could have been worse. “Witnesses indicate the man controlled his skid and dropped the bike, taking the best evasive action he could to minimise his injuries and taking what action would save his life,” Sen Con Hawke said.
