BELGRAVE’S Martha Miller has embarked on a new chapter in life.
The former chef has opted for a change – foregoing her culinary career to explore another of her loves, the world of creative writing.
“I decided a few years ago that working as a chef was fine, but it was just really exhausting,” Ms Miller said.
“So, I actually went back to uni and studied creative and screen writing.”
“I guess, you could call it a kind of mid-life crisis,” she said.
Writing has always played a major part of Ms Miller’s life, even though it took a back seat at times.
“I’ve always written ever since I was little, and in fact, I’ve won quite a few competitions for short stories,” she said.
“I never thought I’d write a book, but I was doing some film reviews and someone read one that I did.”
“He was a publisher and he really liked what I wrote. Things kind of developed from there.”
Ms Miller’s debut novel, ‘Mis’ka’, is the first of a science-fiction fantasy trilogy. The book is aimed at a young adult audience and took 18 months to get published. It is now available in bookstores.
