EXTRA, extra, read all about it’
Mount Evelyn Christian School students recently tried their hands at producing their own newspaper.
Three classes spanning from year seven to nine combined to simulate a working newsroom environment for a week to put their newspaper and media studies to practical use.
Students submitted resumes to apply for positions.
Editor in chief Rose worked hard ‘co-ordinating everybody’s efforts and making sure that this newspaper is the best it can be’.
Rose met the week with anticipation, excitement and nerves.
‘To replicate a professional environment we were required to dress up in corporate wear and we set up desks, an executive area and have had access to tea and coffee,’ she said.
They created a system of different reporters, editors, layout designers, photographers, supplementary journalists and comic artists to produce local, national and opinion articles.
‘Over the week we have met many difficulties, such as our computer network malfunctioning, printers running out of ink and some students having issues with motivation, or lack thereof,’ she said.
‘But it has been a very enjoyable, successful and positive experience.’
