OLINDA’S former fire refuge is an important issue in the lead-up to the election, according to Olinda Fire Group’s John Faul.
“We have a major issue,” he said.
“And we need public support.”
Mr Faul has arranged a public meeting for members of the community as well as local politicians to discuss the importance of revamping the former fire refuge or letting the community know it is not somewhere to go in case of bush fire.
“It is not listed as a Neighbourhood Safer Place, but that’s where people think they should go,” he said.
“This meeting will put pressure on politicians to either clean it up and make it meet all the criteria of a NSP or to tell them not to go there.”
The public meeting will be held on Tuesday 9 November at the Olinda Community House at 7.30pm.
Contact Mr Faul on 0427 371 344 for further information.
