MOUNT Evelyn disability worker Ros Humphries views her photography as an extension of herself.
It is more than just a hobby. It is something she loves, and along with her work with disadvantaged local people, it is something she pours her personality into.
Ms Humphries is showcasing a selection of her work from over the past four years in an exhibition titled Reality and Reflection at Mount Evelyn’s exhibition space.
Gilian Bosaid from the exhibition space said: “The purpose of this place was to give all locals a place to display their work.”
Ms Humphries took up the offer, saying “I just thought I’d give it a try”.
“I’ve been interested in photography for many years and I have a vast collection of photos. I just love photography, be it modern or historic,” she said.
The Reality and Reflection exhibition focuses on “past memories of particular travel experiences, both in Australia and overseas”.
“I do like to sit back and browse and reflect on the highlights of my travels,” Ms Humphries said.
The photos in the exhibition highlight iconic Australian locations from Broome, to Dunnolly, to the South Australian coast. They also shine a light on Ms Humphries’s European expeditions.
But Ms Humphries said she thinks about the shots she didn’t take as much as those she did.
“I regret not capturing some shots because they have the tendency to stick in your head forever,” she said.
“I was once riding pillion with my partner past a South Australian canola field which had this lovely old church in it.
“The sun hit it at the right place and the right time.
“I still regret not stopping.”
Reality and Reflection is currently on display in Mount Evelyn’s exhibition space on Wray Crescent.
