No plastic? Fantastic!

GEMBROOK will undergo plastic surgery for a fresh new market beginning at the end of the month.
The Gembrook market will be plastic bagfree with a strong theme of environmental sustainability expected to be demonstrated by up to 50 stallholders.
Market chairman John Cascone said the market was one of few plastic bag free markets across the state and that the policy will provide environmental benefits.
“What we are trying to do is encourage people to get away from anything that will clog up a landfill.
“The thing is, the general public is demanding to go plastic free in as many cases as possible.”
Mr Cascone said the market would be highly accessible as it would surround Gembrook’s Puffing Billy station.
He said the sustainability theme being pushed by organisers encouraged stallholders to craft objects from what would otherwise be considered scrap.
“If anyone has a bit of timber or whatever; if it has served its purpose, then instead of throwing it in the rubbish we encourage them to rework it into something artistic that people would like to have in gardens and homes.”
The first Gembrook market will be held on the fourth Sunday of the month beginning 28 August at 9am and ending at 3pm.
