School plant for planet

STUDENTS at St Paul Apostle South School in Endeavour Hills were not afraid to get their hands dirty when they planted more than 30 new trees for the Planet Ark National Tree Day initiative.
The school’s principal Helen Greenhill said the day was a great success and that the children were very proud of their efforts.
She said it was a great way to engage families and help the environment at the same time.
“We have done a lot of landscaping since the building project was completed and all the children have been involved,” Mrs Greenhill said.
“We have another 150 trees to plant during our next working bee.
“It is a great way to engage our families and help the environment at the same time.
“Thanks must go to the Upper Beaconsfield Indigenous Nursery who donated all the trees.”
Narre Warren North MP Luke Donnellan gave the kids a helping hand.
“I am an avid gardener, so it’s great to see students take part in planting trees, but it’s really good for the whole community too,” Mr Donnellan said.
“Initiatives like this teach kids about the environment and how important it is to care for our native flora.”
Each year, Planet Ark estimates around 2500 schools across Australia take part in Schools Tree Day.
St Paul Apostle South Primary will be planting another 150 trees in an upcoming working bee.
