Reason to celebrate

COMMUNITY groups wanting to hold a free event for Australia Day next year can complete an expression of interest with the City of Casey.
The council will support up to five community events to a maximum value of $5000 each.
City of Casey mayor Shar Balmes said thousands of people attend Australia Day events in the municipality and each year the City of Casey supports community groups planning to host their own events to celebrate our Nation’s day.
“It’s an unmissable opportunity to celebrate as a community and bring people together,” Cr Balmes said.
To be eligible for the funding, the Australia Day event must be organised and run by a community group or club in the City of Casey.
The event must be of cultural significance, held within the municipality on Thursday 26 January next year, free to everyone and open to all residents.
It must be an alcohol-free and smoke-free event, able to cater for attendance numbers of over 500 people and include first-aid services.
Groups interested in hosting an event can visit www.casey.vic.gov.au/australiaday and complete the expression of interest form. Applications close at 5pm on Wednesday 31 August.
Successful applicants will be supported by council officers but are expected to manage all aspects of their Australia Day event.
Successful applicants will be supported in completing the council’s event approval application process.
