BORONIA traders have mobilised to oppose a proposed adult entertainment venue.
The traders’ objections relate to an application lodged with Knox City Council on Thursday, 15 December for an adult entertainment venue at 1/91A Boronia Road.
The proposed venue would include three performance stages, including performance poles, with seating provided around the stages.
Bar facilities would also be available but the council confirmed that no other services would be provided by the venue.
Boronia trader Murray Gibson of Gibsons Surf City, who has occupied his Boronia Road premises for 42 years, said he and other traders were worried about potential patrons’ use of drugs, their drinking problems and vandalism to the area.
“If a place like that comes then people won’t shop in Boronia. A community centre is not a place for adult entertainment,” Mr Gibson said.
The council had received seven objections as at Tuesday, 14 February, while Mr Gibson and fellow traders will hold a meeting on Tuesday, 7 March to decide on their next course of action. Knox director of city development Steve Dunn said the council was likely to hold a planning consultation meeting in mid-March before deciding on the application in April or May.
