OUTSTANDING individuals in Holt can now be nominated for the next Australia Day Awards.
Holt MP Anthony Byrne is calling for community, sporting and service organisations and members of the public to nominate people for the awards which will be presented on Australia Day 2012.
The nominee or nominee organisation must have made a significant contribution in a voluntary or philanthropic capacity and must live in the electorate of Holt or work with an organisation or association that is based in or services the electorate.
Mr Byrne met previous Holt Australia Day Award recipients recently including members from the Narre Warren SES, Cranbourne Information and Support Service (CISS), and Cranbourne Air League.
Narre Warren SES Tim Howell received the award on behalf of the Narre Warren SES unit for its ongoing efforts, particularly during severe storms in recent years.
Leanne Petridis received the award on behalf of the Cranbourne Information and Support Service (CISS) which provides emergency relief and counselling for people in the Cranbourne region
David Boyde, Squadron Leader at the Cranbourne Air League, received the award for his continued work with the voluntary organisation.
Mr Byrne said the recipients were great examples of how members of the public could make a profound contribution to the community.
“Australia Day is a great day to publicly recognise the significant efforts of individuals whose work enhances community relations, enriches our cultural and sporting lives and to recognise those who put their lives and livelihoods on the line to protect our communities,” Mr Byrne said.
“It is an honour to extend a thank you to these individuals on behalf of the community on Australia Day.”
Nominations will be accepted online at http://anthonybyrnemp.com/file.php?file=/useful_forms.html.
People who want to submit the nomination by email, fax or mail can contact the electorate office on 9796 7533.
