MONBULK Soccer Club is gearing up for a great day of soccer on Saturday for the grand opening of its newly constructed changerooms.
Warming up for big day of soccer the juniors will kick off at noon, which will be followed by the official opening of the change rooms at 2pm.
Former Monbulk player and current Melbourne Victory striker Daniel Allsopp will officially open the changerooms, which will followed by senior and women’s matches, a free sausage sizzle and a player auction.
Club president Barry Adshead said the new change rooms would be a terrific benefit to the senior male and female teams and to the nominated junior team of Monbulk’s affiliated club – the Sherbrooke Rangers Junior Soccer Club.
Mr Adshead said the change room upgrade was well overdue as the club was founded 36 years ago in 1970, and that the first structure built was a very basic set of changing rooms.
He said over the years the club struggled to keep the deteriorating change rooms facility in a safe condition, but in 2004 the club received notification of funding for new changerooms after years of campaigning.
Mr Adshead said the project was funded as a joint partnership between the State Government, Shire of Yarra Ranges and the Monbulk Soccer Club.
He said the project would not have been possible without the tremendous support of the local community and the soccer club’s sponsors.
Mr Adshead said the club’s next goal is to transform one of the old change rooms into a referee and first aid room for the coming season.
And, he said as there is no proper kitchen facility the second change room will be converted into a kitchen when funding is available.
Everyone interested seeing the local soccer players in action are invited to check out the new change rooms and join in the Monbulk Soccer Community on Saturday, 25 March.
