HUMAN remains were discovered in Ferny Creek last week as Parks Victoria staff cleared land for a back burn.
Senior Sergeant Doug Berglund of Belgrave Police said the skeletal remains were found in an area of steep, thick bushland in Dandenong Ranges National Park between Mount Erin Road and Mountain Highway.
A police report estimated the remains to be between five and nine years old.
Sen Sgt Berglund said police would await a coroner’s report before coming up with a description to be cross-referenced with missing persons.
“At this stage suicide has not been ruled out,” he said.
