MONBULK fire brigade is thanking residents after exceeding their own expectations by raising $9000 through sales of their history book.
The money was made through the sale of Go to Blazes: The Monbulk Fire Brigade History, 1941-1991, The First 50 Years, which residents Geoff Sands and Dawn Fleming spent over two decades compiling.
The idea developed after the devastation of the Ash Wednesday fires, and is full of photos and stories of the brigade’s history.
“It was only possible because of the dedicated workload that author Geoff Sands has made,” Captain Ross Lever said.
“It was because he had undertaken to research the history of the brigade and put it all together.
“This was with the fantastic technical support and contribution that was made by Dawn Fleming.
“They have both saved valuable history for the Monbulk community,” he said.
Captain Lever said that due to the cost of reprinting, no more books would be sold, but copies have been given to local schools and libraries so the community can continue to access them.
Captain Lever also made special mention to many local clubs and charities for their support in the book, in particular The Monbulk Bowling Club Incorporated, Shire of Yarra Ranges service centre and Concept books of Monbulk, as well as to all contributors and donors.
“On behalf of the Monbulk fire brigade, thank you to everyone,” Captain Lever said.
The $9000 raised will go towards helping the Monbulk CFA in numerous ways.
