KIDS wishing to kick-start a career in football should aim to be in Upwey this Friday.
The Upwey-Tecoma Football Club is holding a junior registration day at the Upwey Recreation Reserve in Chosen Avenue, Upwey, between 6pm and 8pm on Friday, 8 December.
The club fields junior sides in the under 10, 11, 12, 13, 14 and 16 age groups and members are looking for children of any age and ability to join up.
Junior football coordinator Craig Waters was particularly keen to recruit players in the under 11 category.
He said the recruitment drive was part of the long-term vision of the club, whose motto is ‘Fostering Family and Youth’.
“I started playing there as a junior in the 1970s, so how’s that for a family club?” Mr Waters said.
Upwey-Tecoma’s under 11s and 16s reached the preliminary finals last season, while the seniors fell to Monbulk at the last hurdle.
Mr Waters hoped youngsters keen to play would bring their friends and sign up on the day to ensure the club’s ongoing success.
“If we can pick up a few players in each of the levels, that’s very important for us,” he said.
