EMERALD overcame poor playing conditions to emerge victors over Olinda at the Emerald Golf Club.
The home course advantage seemed to be the deciding factor as Emerald, with an average score of 32.85 points, got past Olinda on 30.07.
Brian McCoy, from Emerald, won the overall prize with 40 points off his 26 handicap.
A Grade was won by Emerald’s Martin Yeats on a 38 with Peter Jeffrey being Olinda’s best with 35.
Olinda’s Bruce Cramm won the B Grade contest on a countback from Emerald’s Rod Shaw who also scored 37 points.
McCoy topped the C Grade with 40 while Gary Westbrook scored best for Olinda with 37 points.
Nearest to the pins was won by Peter Jeffrey on the 4th, Mike Litchfield the 7th, Alistair Hopkins the 12th, Allan Ecclestone the 13th, Martin Yeats the 2nd while Graeme Bates cleaned up the pro pin on the 18th. Longest drive was won by Mike Hayes of Olinda with a crashing drive down the 17th fairway.
Others to hold their heads up were, Ian Scott, Tom Bell, Bruce Trollope and Ross Martin on 38, John Ellerbock on 36, Graeme White 35, and a slice of golfers, including Alistair Hopkins, Steve Pryde, Paul Thomas, Dennis Fuller, Bob Moulday and Peter Coniglione, on 34.
Next week at Emerald sees the first day of the three-day championship event.
