School set to get a cash better boost

MONBULK Primary School has welcomed a $500,000 cash injection for a new toilet block and pathway to the proposed adjoining community centre.
Monbulk MP James Merlino said the school was one of 16 across the state to receive funding for modifications and upgrades under the State Government Better Schools Today program.
He said the school would receive the money to reconstruct a timber building into a modern classroom space and replace the toilet block and create a new façade for the school.
“This is fantastic news for Monbulk Primary School as it will transform the look and feel of the school and improve teaching and learning opportunities,” Mr Merlino said.
“This will also provide a fantastic physical and community link with the adjacent proposed new community centre.”
Principal Ray Yates said the announcement was good news and would be used to help build a pathway between the school and proposed $6 million community centre.
He said the school community and school council were delighted with the funding because they had worked so hard to get the cash.
“Since we have been working on the community centre project we have been looking to create a pathway between the school and the proposed centre,” he said.
Mr Yates said the new façade would be created on the toilet block building, which would be facing the community centre.
“This funding would also help us create a modern and spectacular façade that will complement the new centre.”
Mr Merlino said this funding boost showed that the State Government was serious about its intention to rebuild, extend and renovate every Victorian school.
“We are creating modern and innovative teaching spaces and facilities that reflect the high-quality learning practices taking place in Victorian schools,” he said.
Mr Merlino said the funding was an important step for Monbulk’s community centre project while at the same time making a significant difference to the students and teachers at the school.
“Every student deserves to go to school in high-quality, spacious classrooms in which they feel comfortable, enthusiastic and ready to learn,” he said.
