BIRDWATCHERS have had their binoculars focussed on the annual Sherbrooke lyrebird dawn surveys.
Surveys will also be held on Saturday, 7 July and Saturday, 21 July in conjunction with Parks Victoria and the Sherbrooke Lyrebird Survey Group (SLSG).
The SLSG was formed in the late 1950s and over the years has collected information on lyrebird behaviour, distribution and population trends in Sherbrooke Forest.
The dawn surveys will start at 6am and involve small groups of surveyors standing at designated points in the forest and taking compass bearings of calling male lyrebirds.
Since 2000 the recorded population of lyrebirds in the forest has almost doubled from 25 to 43.
People interested in taking part in one of the surveys should contact Norm Carter on 9754 4424 or Jan Incoll on 9756 6977.
