LOCAL youngsters are preparing to pull out their thermal wear and skis to take on the slopes at Lake Mountain Alpine Resort next week for the school holidays.
A trip to the snow is just one of the many activities planned by the Shire of Yarra Ranges youth services team for its winter chills holiday program from Monday, 19 June to Monday, 3 July.
From skiing at Lake Mountain resort, a DJ workshop, ice skating, and rock climbing to having a laugh at the comedy club show, there are many activities.
Others include breakdancing, a trip to the Scienceworks Museum and the Planetarium, an op shop tour, led lighting, scrapbooking, music events and mini golf.
The winter chills program is aimed at young people aged between 12 to 25 who live, work or study in the shire.
Youth services executive officer Martin Fidler said his team had spoken to young people when creating the program and that all activities have a subsided low cost, or are free and transport is included. Bookings are essential and can be made by calling 9294 6716.
“Winter chills is a fantastic opportunity to meet other young people and have a great time – and because it’s the middle of winter, activities are held indoors – except for the snow outing,” he said.
