Boronia plans the future

KNOX City Council is turning to residents, traders and business operators for feedback on a plan to revitalise Boronia’s centre and immediate surrounds.
The draft plan, delivered to the council at the end of February, was shaped in part by community feedback on the Boronia Place Management Program launched in February 2005.
These comments helped identify key issues, future desires and the needs of visitors and community in Boronia, which was recognised as a major activity centre in the State Government strategy, Melbourne 2030.
Maintaining views towards the Ranges has been cited as a key theme of the Boronia plan, along with quality urban design and public spaces.
The plan recommends the centre be zoned according to the distinct uses of land, for instance for retail, commercial and recreational purposes, and provide a pedestrian-focused environment with efficient and alternative access for all users.
The draft plan went on exhibition yesterday (Monday) and can be viewed until Monday, 8 May at Boronia Library and the Knox Civic Centre.
In addition, displays and posters of the plan will be placed around the Boronia activity centre, and there will be six listening posts across the commercial centre throughout April.
A community night will also be held at the Boronia Progress Hall on Thursday, 20 April from 6pm to 9pm.
A copy of the draft plan and summary brochures are available at www.knox.vic .gov.au, at the Boronia Library, at the Civic Centre or by phoning 9298 8103.
The public is invited to make comments to the council prior to Monday, 8 May by fax to 9801 0389, by email to city.strategy@knox.vic.gov.au, or by post to City Strategy, Knox Council, Locked Bag 1, Wantirna South, 3152.
For further information on the draft plan or the Boronia Place Management Program, call Tanja Heil on 9298 8108.
