Church plan set to go to highest level

THE Shire of Yarra Ranges will seek the approval of the Minister for Planning, Rob Hulls, for a church redevelopment in Mt Evelyn.
The Careforce Church in 89-91 Monbulk Road last week applied for a planning amendment as the proposed site is classified as a Green Wedge zone to be used only as agricultural land.
The proposal is to expand the existing church-related facilities by building a 2500-seat auditorium.
A number of offices has also been proposed to accommodate 40 church staff, along with meeting rooms, a lecture room to hold 300 people, a cafe, bookshop, childcare or creche facilities and other multi-purpose rooms.
Shire director of planning, building and health, James Lamour-Reid, said the proposed office area would be created from the existing 1000-seat auditorium.
Mr Lamour-Reid also said the proposal includes extending the current car park to allow for 772 vehicles, and a small outdoor auditorium located within the car park for use in association with church activities.
Mr Lamour-Reid said 91 Monbulk Road used to be a lemon orchard, but is now an unused pasture.
