Cotton on to Egypt

Egyptian cotton is widely recognised as the finest in the world said Raithe Handiman, co-owner of Blessed Earth in Selby.
“This reputation has been reinforced by the Sekem organisation (meaning ‘vitality from the sun’), who in recent years has helped most of Egypt’s cotton farmers convert to organic/bio-dynamic practices.
“Sekem has also convinced the Egyptian Government to outlaw the aerial spraying of cotton, by effectively demonstrating the increased quality and yields from using biodynamic farming practices.”
During a recent trip to Egypt, Mr Handiman has forged a close working relationship with Sekem, consolidating Blessed Earth’s position as the Australian distributor.
“The first signs of this will be the arrival in mid-May of approximately 35 new styles of baby and children’s clothing,” said Raithe.
“These garments represent the best of European fashion and never before has such a vast collection of organic clothing been assembled in Australia. Trade enquiries are invited.
“A reminder too about the excellent Blessed Earth range of quilts, blankets, pillows, bed linen — and mattresses.
“For those who aren’t yet ready to purchase an organic cotton mattress, we now also have sumptuous winter weight underquilts for existing mattresses. All these products are made in Australia from certified organic cotton.”
