HELEN Holliday is rolling out the excitement in Olinda and surrounding suburbs by establishing a Probus social club for retired and semiretired residents.
The 54yearold Olinda resident works part time as a gardener and said she felt there was a great need for a social club for retired and semiretired people.
“I find a lot people come and live in the Dandenongs after they retire from work because they love the environment and lovely gardens.
“When people are older, and sometimes become widowed, they find it hard to get out; it is a difficult exercise.
“They become rather isolated and as they get older that becomes more pronounced.”
Ms Holliday said the club would offer a platter of social activities, including dinners, guest speakers and trips to theatres.
She said the term Probus was an amalgamation of the words professional and business.
“It is for people who are semi or fully retired but it does not matter what age you are.
“We are being sponsored and assisted by the Rotary Club of Monbulk.”
The first Olinda Probus meeting is scheduled for 9.30am on 10 August at Olinda Hall and Ms Holliday said anyone who wanted an enjoyable social experience was welcome to attend.
