EDIN Selimovic (5) became the new club champion of Emerald Golf Club on Saturday.
With a five-stroke lead going into the last round, Selimovic, with a final score of 222 for the three rounds, fought off an attack from Maguire with 226 to win by four strokes.
Selimovic also took out the handicap gong with 207 from Maguire’s 211.
Captain Rod Ward (15), proved master of all in B Grade to win both trophies with a gross score of 259 and a net score of 216.
Second was Dave Hunt (15), with scores of 269 and 223.
Noel Prictor (21) handled all other C Graders with ease with a gross score of 279 and net score of 216. Next was Ian Scott (27) with 311 and 242.
The putting competition for the three rounds of the championship was won by Selimovic with a miserly 86 putts.
Maguire won the day’s competition with 28.
The day competition went the way of Maguire overall and in A Grade, while Ward and Prictor picked up the gongs in B and C Grades.
Selimovic proved it was truly his day by taking the nearest the pins on the 13th and 17th.
Prictor won the pro pin on the 18th.
Wednesday’s golf was won by Barry Cook and George Meier with a net total of 60.75 for a two-man ambrose event.
Ron Wilson and Mark Lothian were second with 65.5.
Saturday is a stableford event and a chance for combatants to finish off the first round of the club’s match play championship.
