Fan achieves goal

A SOCCEROOS fan from Boronia recently traded in the opportunity to watch the World Cup on a widescreen television at his local soccer club for the real thing in Germany.
Wade Marsden, a Boronia Soccer Club member, had the trip of a lifetime to Germany to watch all four of the Socceroos World Cup matches.
He won this once-in-a-lifetime trip after entering a Master Card ‘follow your dream’ promotion.
As well as winning the trip to Germany, Mr Marsden won five nights accommodation, $5000 spending money, and entry into VIP pre and post-match events.
He said he was overseas when his wife rang him to give him the good news and he thought it was a prank.
Mr Marsden said he travels regularly as part of his job, but being a soccer fanatic and winning this competition was something he’d never experienced before.
The reality of winning the prize sunk in for Mr Marsden when he arrived back in Australia, as messages were left about the trip.
It was the luck of the draw that made Mr Marsden’s dream come true.
Mr Marsden said the experience was indescribable, mind-blowing and exceeded all expectations.
“Being at the games was the best part of the trip. The atmosphere in Germany was just electric,” he said.
Mr Marsden said the games were organised well and the weather was consistently good as the temperature wasn’t any lower then 27 degrees.
“Australia’s qualification has done wonders for the sport, and we have seen that first hand through the influx of junior players at our club.
“If Australia continues to do well, I think football will go from strength to strength,” he said.
