GUTSY play by the Sherbrooke under 13 Tigers kept Manningham to a 4-0 win in their weekend soccer match.
The under 13 Tigers, with four members out ill and injured, called on reserves Joshum Bailey and Joshua Van der Hulst to field 11 players.
With a 5-1 lost to Manningham at home earlier in the season, it was always going to be a big ask.
With a lucky ball in the back of the net for Manningham in the first 60 seconds, the Tigers stood their ground and should be proud of the way they played.
Coach Shaun Bailey repositioned the players by loading the back line and put sweeper/captain Charlie Tibb up forward with striker Tom Leenheers.
The plan to keep the opposition with fewer scoring shots paid off.
Trent Rolfs, Taylor Scott, Joshum Bailey, Joshua Van der Hulst and Leon Wardrope (injured) gallantly defended their goal along with numerous superb saves by gutsy goalkeeper Stephen Torsello.
Leenheers hit the inside of the post from a great run down the right-hand side, and at half-time score was 2-0.
The second half proved to be even tougher on the team, losing goalie Torsello due to injury and playing with only 10 players.
Constant defending and awesome passing by mid-fielders Chris Blythman, Patrick O’Loughlin and Sam Sankey kept Manningham to two goals.
The Tigers should be proud to have only conceded four goals when the odds were heavily stacked against them.
