It’s hair today

CITY standard hairdressing at reasonable prices is a huge drawcard to Olinda salon Hair for the Hills.
Expert cutting and design work is a feature as well as all colour work including expert foiling and semi-permanent colouring with “Shades” by leading brand Redken.
The salon is a wedding and debutante specialist offering a “total look” for clients.
Style director and salon owner Garry Parkes leads a highly professional team.
Garry is an ex-Channel 10 hairstylist and make-up artist with overseas experience.
He has owned businesses in Sydney and in Toronto, Canada, before settling in the Dandenongs 23 years ago and has also enjoyed work as the technical adviser for Redken.
Valued staff member Rhonda Burkwood started after a throwaway comment to her daughter Cara about the salon being busy the next day and perhaps her mother could help out.
Fourteen years later, this highly sought after member of the team at Hair for the Hills is retiring.
“One thing stands out about Rhonda,” said Garry.
“Everybody loves her! Not the usual 50 per cent of clients, but everyone.
“This is because she is so reliable and always comes to work at short notice to relieve others. One man even drives down from Kinglake to see her while others who move away from the area keep travelling back for her excellent hair work which is an all-round understanding of hairstyling.”
Rhonda has established a loyal regular clientele at the salon due to her warm nature and good service.
“You never have to wait for Rhonda; she is always punctual,” said Garry.
“She can work with anybody. I have never seen her agitated or angry towards anybody.”
Garry’s present dilemma is that Rhonda is leaving at Christmas and he needs to find another “Rhonda” to take over her clientele.
“We are looking for a mature, good all-rounder who is great with people and who can work Wednesdays and Saturdays and lots of other days to fill in when other staff are on a break,” he said.
“We offer great working conditions and a friendly atmosphere, so we are hoping to find someone out there who can fill Rhonda’s very big shoes.
Hair for the Hills is at 1534 Mt Dandenong Tourist Road, Olinda.
The salon is open 8.30am-5.30pm except Thursdays when it is open until 8pm and Saturdays when hours are 7.30am -1pm.
Phone 9751 1649 for an appointment or for a job interview with Garry.
