Police are knocked by lack of house numbers

EMERALD police have called for residents to make sure their house numbers are clearly visible in case of emergencies.
Constable Jenny McKenna said that most properties in the area either have numbers that are obscured or there are none at all, and that it impedes not only police but other emergency services.
Const McKenna said there have been no specific incidents to date, but it was a concern for police if they have to attend a violent domestic incident and they are driving around trying to locate a house number.
“I think people get complacent and a lot of them have post office boxes and think they don’t really need to worry about numbering their properties, but they do,” Const McKenna said.
Meanwhile, Emerald police had a busy weekend with break-ins at Emerald Lake Park and the town’s pharmacy.
On Friday, 31 March, the Emerald Lake Park kiosk was broken into and packets of potato chips were stolen.
Const McKenna said there was also associated graffiti left at the scene.
The Emerald Pharmacy’s shed was broken into on Sunday night, 2 April but nothing was stolen.
And in Cockatoo, a car was broken into on Monday morning at 10am at the back of the town’s post office.
Const McKenna said police were calling for witnesses after the car’s window was smashed and money stolen from the vehicle.
She said police believe there were witnesses to the incident and are asking them to come forward with information.
Anyone who may have seen or heard anything on these incidents should contact Emerald police on 5968 4422.
