VISITORS to the Tim Neville arboretum in Ferntree Gully will soon be given a new platform for admiring nature beneath the gaze of the Dandenong Ranges.
Construction is due to begin soon on a new boardwalk in the arboretum situated at the corner of Dorset Road and Francis Court.
Dobson Ward councillor Karin Orpen said the new boardwalk was designed to create a feeling of walking over the surface of the water.
“The boardwalk will have a more modern feel. It will have concrete decking out to the new viewing platform, which will have a steel mesh floor, seating, larger viewing area and lighting.
“Knox Council will invest $166,675 on the new boardwalk and it will have an estimated lifespan of up to 100 years,” Cr Orpen said.
The existing boardwalk is anticipated to be removed in early March and construction of the new fixture will take up to 14 weeks.
“We are lucky in Knox to have areas, like the arboretum, where family and friends can go for a picnic, walk or just to relax,” said Cr Orpen.
The arboretum was the site of opening night celebrations at this year’s Knox Festival last Friday.
