SUPPORT, sharing, learning and growth are just some of the many positives to be gained from being part of a local community centre.
“At Mountain District Learning Centre (MDLC), age is no barrier to learning — mature age students mingle and blend seamlessly with our young students and everyone gains from this unique learning environment,” said staff.
“It is an environment that is less pressured than mainstream school and one that can help adult students from 16 to 60 (and beyond!) achieve their goals.
“Our capable staff members are also grounded in the real world and understand the implications that a return to study involves.
“Both the teachers and the administrative staff offer a supportive atmosphere to all who come here.”
MDLC is a registered training organisation and offers a wide variety of courses to advance language skills, promote employment opportunities, provide interest groups and encourage personal development through improving one’s own self esteem. Many other interest and leisure activities are also available.
Traditionally, it has been women who have chosen to seek out their local community centre but the world is an ever changing place and many more men are finding that organisations such as this have so much to offer.
Courses such as certificate IV in assessment and training and certificate I in horticulture are very popular with many students.
Like all community centres, MDLC aims to foster community involvement and inclusion. Many houses, like MDLC, also welcome volunteers and encourage those who wish to get involved.
“With all these positives, we are a great alternative to the larger and sometimes more daunting educational environments and we provide the same high standard of teaching,” said staff.
“In fact, many of our tutors also teach at TAFE and similar organisations. So, what’s holding you back?
“Seek and you shall find a wonderful place that can offer you a step up into a stimulating, enjoyable and rewarding future.”
