VENTURING into the wilds of Monbulk, Mountain District Christian School held a jungle safari last week to help raise funds to build a bigger football oval.
The school’s office was transformed into a jungle headquarters when it was covered by a 30-metre camouflage net which was donated by the Australian Army.
Safari organiser and parent Sharizaar O’Heart said more than 145 children, parents, grandparents and visitors trekked around the school along its beautiful bush trails.
Ms O’Heart said the day was full of activities including collecting clues along the trails, completing puzzles and collecting creek water.
She said the safari was part of a Fit for Life Sporting fund raiser that the school was running during term two to raise money to build a larger school sports oval.
Ms O’Heart said the school has needed a larger oval for the past 25 years and that parents are now committed to making the dream a reality.
“My son Fergus loves to pay soccer and from talking with Monbulk Football Club and Sherbrooke Ranges Junior Soccer Club it became evident that we have a desperate shortage of training and playing facilities in the hills area for the winter season,” she said.
