Volunteer groups rewarded

VOLUNTEERS in the hills have received a $150,000 handout from the Federal Government in the latest round of the Volunteer Small Equipment Grants announced last week.
La Trobe MP Jason Wood said 80 organisations in the electorate had been successful with their applications for up to $3000 worth of equipment.
It is a true testament to their dedication and commitment to volunteering – and well deserved,” Mr Wood said.
“Local groups have received funding for items such as laptops, digital cameras, BBQs, microwaves and gardening equipment, which will greatly assist local volunteers to do their jobs.”
The funding will allow the Selby Fire Brigade to purchase a new Global Positioning System (GPS) and the Southern Dandenongs Landcare Group to buy a brush-cutter, while Emerald Junior Football Club will receive new goal umpires’ flags and jackets.
All applicants for grants will be notified in writing as to the outcome of their application.
A full list of successful applications has been posted online at www.facsia.gov.au.
