Author’s best foot forward

JESSICA Batton of Mt Dandenong has been rewarded for her story about an ugh boot.
She won the Junior Section of the Eastern Regional Libraries National Story Writing Competition.
Jessica’s story is about an ugh boot who is a miss-fit at the reject shoe barn and has always been put down for being different.
The ugh boot then makes friends with an oversized thong which has spikes on its sole and discovers that it is not so bad being the odd one out.
Jessica said she always likes reading stories that are unusual which is what inspired her to write about an ugh boot.
“I was sitting in my room and saw an ugh boot and thought why not write a story about shoes,” she said.
Jessica was over the moon when she won the competition.
Meanwhile, fellow writer Judith Sackville-O’Donnell of Upwey was awarded second prize in the local section for her story Death is a Big Part of Life which was about an old people’s home.
All the prize winners in the competition received $250 and a certificate.
