SILVAN Province MP Carolyn Hirsh resigned from the Labor Party last week after police caught her drink driving.
This comes seven months after Ms Hirsh was welcomed back into the party fold after spending 12 months as an independent.
In 2004, Ms Hirsh was dumped by Labor after she was caught on separate occasions for drink driving, and driving while disqualified.
Ms Hirsh told the Mail in November last year that she found it very difficult after being in the Labor Party for 35 years to be an independent.
Maroondah Traffic Management Unit sergeant John McIntosh confirmed Ms Hirsh was intercepted by police on Wednesday night in Ringwood East with a blood-alcohol reading allegedly above the legal limit.
Ms Hirsh was later admitted to hospital.
When contacted by the Mail on Monday, Ms Hirsh’s office confirmed the troubled MP was on sick leave.
If Ms Hirsh resigns from Parliament, voters in Silvan would face a by-election just months before the November state election.
