SHERBROOKE’S Division 2 women travelled to Latrobe City to take on the Energy in their qualifying final last Saturday night.
The Suns welcomed back captain Rachael Fearon-Brown and with Robyn Ladd getting a couple of games under her belt last weekend after a long term injury, Sherbrooke went into the game reasonably confident of taking it up to the Latrobe team.
The Suns got off to a bright start and led by 3 points at the first break but the Energy came out firing in the second quarter and edged ahead slightly despite some very solid defence by the Sherbrooke team. At the main break Latrobe City were ahead 37-35.
The third quarter saw the lead change several times as both teams fought to take control of the game but by the end of the term both teams had scored 17.
The final quarter was all Energy as they overpowered the Suns 26-7 and recorded an 80-59 victory.
Free throw shooting was one of the defining areas of the game as the Energy scored 23 points from 32 attempts, whereas the Suns only scored 5 pts from 12 attempts.
For Sherbrooke, Stephanie Kennett led the scorers with 15 points, 3 rebounds and was supported by Sharlene Fraser with 12 pts, 11 rebounds and Rachael Fearon-Brown with 12 pts and 6 rebounds.
This weekend, the Suns are at home to the Southern Peninsula Sharks on Saturday night at 7.30pm in a must-win game if they are to make it through to the grand final series.
