SILVAN Football Club members will be invited to roll up their sleeves, put on an apron and join the kitchen crew if a Labor Government is re-elected.
Sports Minister Justin Madden and Monbulk MP James Merlino last week announced an election promise of $30,000 for the Silvan Football Club’s kitchen upgrade.
Mr Madden said the Labor Government will invest in facilities that matter to local communities such as sport and recreation reserves.
“The clubs at Silvan Recreation Reserve cater for footballers, cricketers and netballers of all ages and abilities,” he said.
“To encourage more people to go for their life and participate in physical activity, local sporting facilities need to be adequate.”
Mr Merlino said the funding will be used to upgrade the club’s kitchen and canteen to meet occupational health and safety and food handling requirements.
“The kitchen is over 20 years old and needs to be upgraded to meet the growing needs of the club,” he said.
Mr Merlino said sporting clubs bring people together and help strengthen communities. “Our local sports clubs play an important role in the community and we (Labor) are committed to supporting them,” he said.
Nick Distella, club president said the funding promise is great news and now is a good time for the club to renovate because the football season has just finished.
