Tap in to shower head exchange

A FREE showerhead exchange program will allow foothills residents to save up to 11 litres of water per minute in the shower.
The program invites residents to swap their old showerheads for new water-efficient models.
Yarra Valley Water’s (YVW) showerhead exchange program is already in operation and now South East Water (SEW) customers will be able to make the swap on Saturday, 17 March.
Residents of Upper Ferntree Gully, Upwey, Tecoma and Belgrave need only bring their old showerheads, along with a recent SEW bill, to the Upwey Village Green between 9am and noon to claim their new showerheads.
Shire of Yarra Ranges mayor Tim Heenan endorsed the initiative.
“This is a great deal,” he said.
“Bring in your old water-waster and swap it for a sleek three-star water saver showerhead worth $65 for free.”
The water-saving benefits have already been reaped by Yarra Valley Water customers with more than 5600 households taking part in the exchange program during January and February.
With showers accounting for about 30 per cent of household water usage, YVW has been delighted with the outcome so far.
SEW customers can exchange up to two showerheads per household at Saturday’s event, while tenants will need permission from property owners.
YVW customers can register for the exchange at www.yvw.com.au or by calling 13 17 21. They will then be sent a letter which they can take to their local Australia Post to exchange their showerheads.
