IT’S time to get excited about wood with the annual Sassafras Easter Timber Show opening on Friday.
Sassy Plants and Redgum by Design are hosting the timber show and have created a festival packed full of nursery related products and plants along with an array of beautifully handcrafted rustic timber furniture and giftware.
The show, now in its second year, will have something for everyone including wood turning demonstrations, wood carving, and timber and furniture sales.
Several local artists from the Sherbrooke Art Society will also have some of their work on display.
The timber show will run from Friday, 6 April to Monday, 9 April at 361-365 Mt Dandenong Tourist Road, Sassafras.
Sassy Plants will have an amazing array of plants, vegetables and fruit trees such as citrus, plums and apples available.
Mark Fry of Sassy Plants says he will also have a large range of drought hardy plants and proteas on sale.
He says a number of drought tolerant products such as pea straw, sugar-cane mulch, wetting agents, water crystals, grey water kits will be on offer.
A fascinating range of bonsai will also be on show and plants which have been imported from China.
Sassy Plants also has one of the best displays in Melbourne of exotic bark to bark slabs including blackwood, redgum, American oak and MacKay cedar, plus arbours and garden furniture with lifetime guarantees, direct from the USA.
Redgum by Design will have an exciting display of handcrafted rustic furniture and giftware and sales of timber slabs including staircase timber for steps and runners.
Owner Phil Davidson says he has a passion for using the natural shapes, forms and textures found in timber to create functional, stylish and individual pieces.
Mr Davidson says 90 per cent of the timber he uses is reclaimed and salvaged from throughout the Dandenong Ranges.
“Don’t burn that tree – treecycle it,” he said.
The timber show promises to have a great display of garden and timber products so don’t miss out.
