FOODIES in Ferntree Gully, Boronia and The Basin have been given a taste of gold.
Food outlets in the three suburbs were among eight gold award winners in Knox City Council’s Going for Gold Food Safety Awards Program.
Chassy’s Café and The Cheesecake Shop in Boronia, The Basin’s Chocolate Dragon Butterfly Cafe and Sueflay’s Cafe in Ferntree Gully were all given the top award.
It is the second consecutive year Chassy’s Café, Chocolate Dragon Butterfly Cafe and Sueflay’s Cafe have taken gold.
The program required applicants to demonstrate excellent food safety standards, healthy eating options and environmentally friendly practices.
In total, 39 Knox food businesses took part in the program with 27 being awarded gold, silver or bronze status.
It is the second year the council has run the awards which are open to restaurants, bakeries, cafes, delicatessens and take away food outlets in the municipality.
Immediate past Knox mayor David Cooper congratulated all participating businesses and encouraged more to enter next year.
“Knox council implemented the Going for Gold Program to recognise proprietors’ achievements and to encourage other proprietors to raise their standards to a similar level,” he said.
