Police give car theft caution

POLICE in Knox and Belgrave have warned residents not to leave valuables in unattended vehicles after a spate of recent thefts.
Belgrave police reported 10 vehicles were broken into in the week ending Monday, 29 May. Four of the incidents occurred in Belgrave, with two each in Upwey and Tecoma, and one in Selby and Belgrave South. Meanwhile, Knox police have recorded over half a dozen thefts in Ferntree Gully and Upper Gully residential streets over the past fortnight.
Senior Sergeant Phil Edmunds said thefts included a laptop and a briefcase, and warned residents to be more protective of their property.
“These are local people walking past cars and seeing something inside. If the opportunity presents itself, they will steal it,” he said.
