Events for Games warm-up

By Ed Merrison
KNOX residents are invited to start limbering up for Melbourne 2006 with a day of sporting activity.
The City of Knox is hosting twin events and a range of sporting demonstrations on Sunday, 20 November to set pulses racing ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
The Knox Community Bike Ride will depart from the Civic Centre at 9am, with a 20km route taking riders to Rowville Community Centre in Fulham Road, Rowville.
Alternatively, a 10km ride to the same destination will begin at 9.30am.
Those preferring to get into their stride on foot can take part in the Knox Community Walk, a 4km stroll starting at Gilbert Park Reserve, Knoxfield.
Walkers are invited to watch a softball demonstration at 9.30am prior to their departure, and will join the cyclists at Rowville to enjoy further spectacles.
Local sporting clubs will demonstrate BMX and tour-bike riding, netball, basketball, cricket, athletics and in-line hockey.
The public is invited to watch the experts or try a new sport, and there will be activities especially for kids.
Music for the afternoon will come courtesy of Maori group Nga Manu Walat who will also perform the Haka and Pacific nation music.
Everyone will receive a complimentary certificate of participation upon completion of their event and there will be giveaways and prizes.
A complimentary shuttle bus will return participants to their starting point. All participants must register for the event. Registration forms are available at www.knox.vic .gov.au.
Fax completed forms to Bruce Drummond on 9298 8445, or email them to games2006@knox.vic.gov .au by Friday, 18 November. Alternatively, bring them along on the day.
