STATUES and war-time memorabilia from the Upwey-Belgrave RSL sub-branch will have a new home soon with a display cabinet on the way.
The RSL will buy a new cabinet with the help of a $3000 Federal Government grant.
La Trobe MP Jason Wood said the RSL has been gathering several pieces of memorabilia over the years.
Mr Wood said it is important that the rsl provides a place for the members and the public to view the memorabilia in a display that everyone can enjoy.
“It is also important to protect the items for generations to come,” he said.
Robert Ferguson, Upwey-Belgrave RSL past president, said the sub-branch is waiting on funding approval so that it can build a museum to house the war memorabilia.
Mr Ferguson said the RSL hopes that once the museum is up and running it will be able to display the memorabilia with different sections for the separate conflicts.
“We want to have sections from all the conflicts from World War I right through to recent conflicts,” he said.
“Most RSLs only have World War I and II memorabilia, but we are building an excellent collection here.”
