Visit to big school

TWO-hundred-and-fifty hills students got their first taste of secondary school recently.
Children from Gembrook, Selby, Menzies Creek, Macclesfield, Emerald and Cockatoo primary schools spent the day at Emerald Secondary College.
The day was part of the secondary college’s celebration of being chosen as a part of the Select Entry Accelerated Learning (SEAL) program.
Children spent the day enjoying some of the finer points of high school such as trying their hand at pottery, drama and art classes.
The SEAL program gives gifted students the opportunity to finish their secondary education in four or five years.
Students are tested and selected for the program which will give them the chance to finish their year seven to 10 studies in just three years.
The activity day was the first step towards the planning of the introduction of the SEAL program in 2008.
Assistant principal Tanja Korsten said the day not only gave students the opportunity to experience life at the high school but also gave them an insight into the SEAL program.
“It was also a great way for them to experience college life,” she said.
