OPEN Day at Emerald Golf Club saw a great field of members and guests under sunny skies that flew in the face of the vicious weather predicted.
The contest became a one horse race as Martin Yeats continued his fabulous form to score 47 points off his 10 handicap.
This score came from a one under par round of 69. He stated, when questioned, that there were only two shots for the day that disappointed him. Most golfers can handle that statistic in the first couple of holes.
Next came Paul Thomas who scored 41 points off 25. Third was Tim Martin, who proved that the young can really do golf when he scored 40 points off his 6 handicap.
Of the others who turned up and did okay, were, Dennis Fuller on 39, Ian Scott on 36, and a slice of golfers including Barry Cook, Greg Horrocks and Mike Litchfield on 35 points.
Guests without handicaps were classified using the Callaway system. Of these, Aldo Sette won with 71.5, followed by P. Stevens with 72.
Nearest the pins was won by P. Cluckman on the fourth, Tim Martin the seventh, Yeats the 12th, Brian Crawford the 13th and Greg Horrocks, fresh back from the United States took out the pro pin money on the 18th.
The longest drive was won by Justin Fuller with Ross Martin second.
Next Saturday the August medal is up for grabs. This is also the qualifying round for the annual match play championship so all members who wish to throw their hat in the ring for that, should be there, ready to perform.
