Dinner evening for life

By Tania Martin
AN EMERALD resident has invited family and friends to help her raise funds for this year’s Casey Cardinia Relay For Life event which supports the Cancer Council of Victoria.
Emerald resident and Cockatoo Primary School teacher Leonie Northfield has put together a team of family, friends and work colleagues to participate in the 2006 event.
The event will be a dinner at the Wild Oak Restaurant in Mt Dandenong on Thursday night.
This is the second time Ms Northfield and the Wild Oak Restaurant have teamed up for the Relay for Life event.
Last year they held a raffle at the restaurant with the main prize a dinner for two.
“Our team raised almost $1200 last year and we are raising the bar this year and hope to raise over $1500 for the dinner alone,” Ms Northfield said.
The dinner costs $50 per person and includes a two-course dinner and two glasses of wine, as well as several door prizes and raffles.
Wild Oak Restaurant owner and chef Ben Higgs said this was an ideal opportunity to help a dedicated group of locals raise money for a very important cause.
“The Casey Cardinia Relay for Life is an important part of the local community and I am pleased to be able to provide Leonie’s team with this opportunity,” he said.
Relay for life is open to everyone in the community, with locals asked to gather friends, family and work mates together to form a team.
Registration is $15 per person, with a recommended 10 members per team.
Tickets for the dinner are still available by calling Ms Northfield on 5968 3333.
