YARRA Ranges police detected 64 traffic offences in a three-day traffic blitz last week.
During the operation, which ran from Thursday, 24 to Saturday, 26 November, police checked 874 drivers and charged eight people in relation to drink driving.
Police said one driver was caught doing 120kph in a 70kph zone on the Burwood Highway in Upper Ferntree Gully.
Police said there was an ongoing problem of drivers speeding along the stretch, known as the mad mile, between Upper Ferntree Gully and Upwey.
The Yarra Ranges operation was part of the Remove all Impaired Drivers (RAID) initiative which also has the backing of the Traffic Accident Commission and is part of ongoing operations in the area.
Bowls vandals
BORONIA Bowls Club suffered extensive damage from vandals over the weekend.
The damage occurred some time between Friday night and Saturday morning.
The offenders turned on sprinklers, dug holes in the greens and broke equipment, which was then strewn across the ground.
