Liberals promise palliative care bus

EMERALD’S palliative care unit, Fernlea House, could say goodbye to its transport problems if the Liberal Government is put into power at the up-coming State elections.
The Liberal party has promised to grant Fernlea House $60,000 for a bus to transfer guests to and from the palliative care unit. At the moment Fernlea House hires a bus once a week and has to rely on volunteer drivers and carers to drop off and pick up its guests.
Anne Davis president of Fernlea House said if the funding comes through it will help free up some money for the house to build a purpose built laundry and another toilet.
Liberal candidate for Gembrook Simon Wildes said Fernlea House currently doesn’t receive any State Government funding which is something he will fight to change if he is voted in at the election.
However, Gembrook MP Tammy Lobato said the State Government announced $59,210 funding for a shuttle bus which was a joint grant between Emerald Community House, Fernlea House and University of the Third Age (U3A) in July.
She said the joint arrangement with the community house makes the maintenance cost of the bus affordable for Fernlea House.
